The Midnight Cop : Chapter 2 Promoted To Jail:

In the CCTV control room

"wow, it's completely, shocking" Hailey declared.

"I never assumed that Mr. Mendy would do such a thing, I'm so disappointed" Archer said with tears spilling from his eyes.

"Take things easy, you don't have to be like this" Hailey said, helping him wipe the tears.

"Wow, the great NPD now delude themselves" The Manager said "when the officers are against one another, who will be the prosecutor?" he added.

"Thanks, I appreciate it a lot" Archer said as he and the manager exchange handshakes.

¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶

On their way out Hailey halted.

"Is there anything wrong?" Archer raised a question.

"What if the Manager erases that footage before we go back for it?" Hailey inquired.

"I've taken the flash drive with me" Archer whispered "I don't trust him that much and the cameras are still watching and listening" he concluded unlocking the door to his house.

¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶

At NPD

"Good Morning Sir" Archer and Hailey greeted Mr. Andy.

"Morning guys, how can I be of help?" He asked.

"We know the culprit sir, and we have good proof " Archer responded.

" Are you sure of what you're saying?" Mr. Andy enquired.

"Yes sir" Hailey said while Archer checked his bag for the flash drive.

"OK, for the murder case or theft?" He enquired further

"For the theft, and surely it will lead us to that of the murder case sir" Archer replied as he gave the flash drive to Mr. Andy. 

"Don't tell me the culprit, I'll uncover that myself" Mr. Andy concluded.

"Let's be on our way then, we won't like the culprit to see us here" Hailey added as they took turns to shake their boss before leaving.

"I'm left to the puzzle now" Mr. Andy thought. 

"Shane" he called a constable "Shane!!!". He shouted

"Sir" he answered coming into the department.

"Close all entrances, and do not allow anyone in" Mr. Andy said.

"Yes sir" he took a bow and left.

Mr. Andy opened a new pack of cigarettes, and he put fire on a stick while basking his hot coffee. He turned on his desktop, then inserted the flash drive. 

"Let's do this" he said to himself. Opening the files on the hard drive, he saw a minute video which he right clicked.

In the CCTV Camera

Archer and Hailey came out with the police sample bag with them, it was obvious that they were headed to the Medical Examiner's Office. After a while, Collins followed.

In the office

"So it's you, this nitwit" Mr. Andy said referring to Collins.

In the CCTV Camera

10 hefty men infiltrated the compound, and used a sort of key to open the door, a man in his 40s dressed like a senior detective who occurs to be Mr. Mendy led the men.

In the office

"Mendy?, How and why will Mendy do such?" Mr. Andy pondered "this is unbelievable" he laments.

In the CCTV Camera

After a couple of minutes of Mr. Mendy waiting outside, his men came out. 

"Did you get his jacket?" He asked.

"Yes sir" one of them replied, showing him the jacket as they made their way to the gate leaving the doors open.

¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶

In the office

"That's it, there's evidence, it's equal to the fact that he issued an arrest without a warrant to him, knowing that he cannot find his jacket" Mr. Andy thought. "But this will not be an easy task" he concluded in his thought. 

"Well done, you now have a chance to escape this, I thought it would be Collins" Mr. Andy said in a phone conversation. "I'll surely do that" he said as he received another call. "How are you dear?" Mr. Andy asked. "Do you mean it?, An accident?, Please take care of her, I'll be there in a jiffy" Mr. Andy said terminating the call running out of the office.

At the Hospital

"How did it happen?" Mr. Andy asked.

"It was hit and run" said Mrs. Andy.

"And the culprit?" Mr. Andy asked.

"He escaped and reported himself at a call center" Mrs. Andy explained as she starts to cry.

"This is a plan to punish me" Mr. Andy laments.

"I've always warned you, Joshua, now you put our daughter's life in peril" Mrs. Andy sobbed holding on to his shirt.

"We should be praying that she should recover completely and not fight dear" Mr. Andy advised.

The Doctor showed up "Mr. Andy, it is good that you're here, we found out that the motorcyclist had done this on purpose" the Doctor explained.

"I knew it was a setup, but I can't figure out how to know the perpetrator" Mr. Andy explained.

"Mr. Woods" a nurse called the doctor "come and see this sir" she exclaimed quickly running back to the theater as the doctor follows.

"What is wrong?" Mr. Andy raised his voice while running after the doctor but the door was closed.

"Darling, what's going on?" Mrs. Andy inquired.

¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶

At Archer's place

"I hope Mr. Andy is already taking the right steps" Hailey and Archer discussed over lunch.

"That's why I need to call him now, he cut the call awkwardly earlier" Archer said picking his phone to call Mr. Andy. "Hello sir, I called to get updates from what has been going on ........" he continued to speak and did not get any response "hello sir, Mr. Andy" he called without a response, this made him terminate the call.

"What did he say?" Hailey asked.

"He didn't say anything, something is wrong" Archer assumed "get up, let's reach Mrs. Andy" he concluded.

"How will Mrs. Andy know his whereabouts except for the NPD?" Hailey queries. 

"Let's go to his home first if we go to NPD we'll be seen, but if his wife is at home she'll be able to help us contact Mr. Andy" Archer pointed out.

¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶

At Mr. Andy's residence

"Hello, who is home?" Archer shouted as he rang the bell.

A young lady came out of the house "Hello, good afternoon sir and ma" she took a glance at the pair "if I'm right, you're Archer" she said pointing to Archer "and you, Hailey" she concluded. "How can I help you?" She asked.

The two in question stared at each other, then at the young lady "we ask of Mrs. Andy" Archer and Hailey said together.

"Did you not hear that her daughter was a victim of a hit and run?" the young lady said.

"Wow" Archer and Hailey exclaimed.

"Where is she being treated" Archer inquired.

"Harvey Save Lives" the Young Lady replied.

"Let's get going" Archer urged Hailey who was traumatized.

"I knew Mr. Andy will not just ignore our call" Hailey laments.

"That's not the bone of contention, he may start to think that we've read the news and still disturbing him about our predicament" Archer explained.

"We're not animals and we're not heartless to the extent of behaving in such manner" Hailey responded as they stopped a cab.

At Harvey Save Lives

"Boss, you should know it that if we heard, we'll come earlier, a lady at your house informed us that she was a victim of a hit and run" Archer explained.

Mr. Andy looked at him helplessly and kept mute. 

Silence ruled over the reception for a few minutes until the doctor showed up.

"How is my daughter?" Mr. Andy asked.

"Mr. and Mrs. Andy, you're so lucky, your daughter survived" the doctor said and his facial expression changed almost immediately.

"What is wrong?, you don't seem happy, I hope nothing is wrong with my daughter?" Mrs. Andy asked.

"It's just that, she lost her memory" the doctor revealed and left for his office instantly.

"Ah!!!" Mrs. Andy screamed then faced her husband, "Joshua, now you can see the results of your job" she cries then she faced Archer and Hailey, "what are you still waiting for?, to hear that she's dead?, you've done enough for my husband, please go away from here" she shouted pushing them out.

"Why is she reacting this way, we don't even know what caused the accident" Hailey said.

"It was a setup, it was done to warn or punish Mr. Andy" Archer explained."Let's go home and think of a way out, it'll be hard for Mr. Andy to help us henceforth" Archer explained.

"That's true" Hailey said.

¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶

"Sir, I labored with you then, just for me to reap in the future, I'm in a situation now and I need your help." Mr. Mendy discussed on phone.

"You should at least give me some respect, I'm the Vice President at least" Mr. Luther, the Vice President said.

"You got there with our aid, and you're aware of that sir" he said, emphasizing on the sir.

"Let me listen to your explanation, narrate everything as it is, do not hide any card" Mr. Luther stressed.

"I have done a lot" he sat on his bed, clearing his throat, allowing the words to sink, "I decided to enjoy myself, so I called for hook up at Brunette hotel, I wanted to smoke, she declined and while we were having a good time she brought a knife. On her attempt to kill me, I overpowered her, and stabbed her but I had to make it look like suicide. So I cleaned every bloodstain, I removed the bedsheet, I put her bleeding body in the bathtub during our struggle, I quickly took my jacket and put on my shorts but on my way out she tore my office jacket, I had to remove the NPD's logo, someone saw me coming out of the room, though that is not the problem because I do use a human facial mask with a mustache, so she testified to the police that she saw the murderer, " Mr. Mendy paused to catch a breath.

"But you've cleared all that, they are still in search of the murderer and they have proclaimed a junior officer as the suspect" Mr. Luther explained.

"That is where the problem lies" Mr. Mendy continued "that junior detective, Archer now has evidence".

"And how did you know that?" Mr. Luther asked.

"I did the hit and run, I hit Joshua's daughter to keep him busy because my informant told me, Joshua instructed that the station should be locked temporarily, then I knew something is fishy". He lied down on his bed "When he left, I went to the office, he left the flash drive in the system and it consists of the CCTV footage of how I broke Archer's house and stole his jacket. I took the flash drive, then I went back to Archer's house this noon, I realized that there was no CCTV camera, except for the one from the hotel next to his house, I enquired and visited the hotel, the manager asked for 10 million dollars to erase the evidence, I thought of who to call, you were the first person I thought of". He sighed to allow a minute of silence, "I need your help" he said.

"This is not a simple matter, I don't think I have that much" Mr. Luther explained.

"Sir, the last time I checked your net worth, you were 15 billion dollars rich, but now you decided to repay my favor with evil?" Mr. Mendy asked "please think about it sir, I'll get my feedback tomorrow, thanks sir". He concluded ending the call. "Why are people this wicked?" he thought "when  I was killing people to make him rich he has already forgotten?" he smiled mischievously "I thank my creator for making me a very kind, calm and Godly person. Please when you're done in the kitchen wake me up" he said as he retired to bed.

"It is your fate, you can never live a happy life" Archer's dad appeared and told him.

"You were born with a killer-star destiny, you can never be a good citizen" his mom added.

Hailey showed up "No matter how well you try, I cannot stay with a murderer" she shouted.

"You should have learned to survive the hard way to avoid this destiny" a lady in her twenties said.

"Your fate cannot be changed, learn to live with it". They all echoed.

¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶

"Noooooo" Archer shouted as he woke from his nightmare.

His shout got Hailey awake, and she quickly went to the parlor where Archer slept to check on him. "Are you alright?" She asked.

"I had that dream again" he explained.

"It's becoming daily, I think you should see a fortune teller, or something" Hailey suggested.

"That's irrelevant" Archer replied.

"Am I still showing up?" She asked.

"It's the same since the first day I've been having this nightmare" he said.

"Will you come to the bedroom?, at least you'll not be alone like in the sitting room" Hailey suggested.

"You go first, I'll join you" he said as Hailey left the parlor.

A ringing phone wakes Mr. Mendy up

"Good morning, I have transferred the sum of 10 million dollars to your account, please save me more stress in the future" Mr. Luther said, terminating the call immediately.

"I thought he would want to risk his dignity" Mr. Mendy laughed.

"He finally sent you the money?" A young lady who seemed to have passed the night at his place asked.

"He will never joke with his political career" Mr. Mendy added.

"So can I have my share?" She asked.

"Ms. Damien Flora, doctors do not love money that much" he joked.

"Mr. Mendy, let my type of Doctor be a distinguished one" Ms. Damien replied.

"So, what do you think their next plan would be?" Mr. Mendy asked.

"Since you've taken the CCTV footage, the samples, DNA and scans will be their hope, and I've informed them earlier that I lost them" she explains.

"Now you know why I just love you?, you're the smartest" he said gifting her a hug.

"Hello, good morning, I am sorry for not being able to control my wife yesterday, when she reacted with anger. I want to inform you that there is a meeting tomorrow which you must attend with Hailey, the NPO's Commissioner will be present too, we'll reveal the evidence and it's possible for the culprit to get arrested immediately and you can be promoted too" he explained. "I've been trying to reach you but it has not been going through, I thought you might still be angry with my wife, so I dropped this message". Archer dropped his phone on the table after listening. "What do you think?" He asked Hailey.

"We have to be there, at least to clear our names" she suggested.

"Then let's get prepared" he concluded.

¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶

"Good Morning, beautiful ladies, handsome gentlemen, and patriotic officers. I laud your efforts, I'll say that you've been the best team in the country so far" Mr. Gilbert, the NPO's Commissioner started. "But then recently, disheartening news has been causing me an earache, I've been told that there is internal strife within the team" he paused sipping out of a cup of hot coffee he let out a pleasing sigh, "and as it seems now, I have to hear from Mr. Andy first" he concluded as Mr. Andy stood from his seat, "you can have your sit please" Mr. Gilbert advised.

"Thanks for this great privilege sir, and thanks for checking on us. It all started from a murder case which we investigated, only to find out that the murderer is one of us sitting here, because we found an NPD jacket with the chest logo off. The jacket was torn, we discovered these when we joined the pieces together, then it happened that we decided to tender our jackets to find the culprit, and to his disadvantage, he could not bring his own" he said pointing to Archer. "But recently he brought an evidence showing another detective sitting here who stole his jacket"

"Haaaa!!!!" all the officers exclaimed.

"This left me confused". He concluded.

"Can I see the evidence?" Mr. Gilbert asked.

"Yes Sir" he said, checking his pocket to find the flash drive missing, he checked his office locker, he checked his desktop, then he remembered that he failed to take it with him when he was called from the hospital.

"I don't have all the day here, Mr. Andy" Mr. Gilbert complained.

"I can't find it sir" Mr. Andy said.

"You mean?, then instead of getting Mr. Archer promoted, I'll just promote him to jail then. He is the murderer" Mr. Gilbert said, as some officers started to feel happy, but they were only afraid to talk or misbehave in the presence of the commissioner.

"Excuse me sir" Archer said on his feet.

"You have something to say?" He inquired.

"I have a duplicate evidence" Archer's outburst got a lot of facial expressions back to how it had been, Mr. Mendy had started to sweat profusely.

"Nice, if this is real, then you're going to get the real promotion for real" Mr. Gilbert joked, "bring it on, let's see the Judas within" he said clapping his hand together.

Archer inserted the flash drive and played the CCTV footage.

Mr. Gilbert shouted on top of his voice, hitting the table continuously "Mr. Mendy, Mendy, or whatever your name is, it's annoying to see a 25-years experienced officer do this, you know the law and the consequences. Put this man behind bars right now" he decided furiously "I had the thought of promoting you to the Boss Detective of Baldom, to end the rivalry between you and Mr. Andy, not knowing that your promotion is only worth being jailed" Mr. Gilbert said, as he picked his car keys and left the office.
